Nació en Valladolid, hoy Morelia, capital de Michoacan. Lider de la segunda etapa de la Independencia. En 1814 promulga la Consti-tución de Apatzingán, la primera redactada en México. Por su patriotismo y entrega se le reconoce como "El Siervo de la Nación"

Born in Valladolid (present day Morelia, capital of Michoacan). Leader of the second phase of the Mexican Independence. In 1814 he enacted the Constitution of Apatzingan, the first drafted in Mexico, In light of his patriotism and dedication he is known as "The Servant of the Nation".

Erected 2010 by City of Chicago.
