1. Historic Small Craft Marker

Inscription.
This small boat can either be sailed or rowed. Probably built in Jacksonville around one hundred years ago, it's constructed of overlapping cypress planks, called "lapstrake" planking, with copper-alloy fastenings. Cypress is very rot resistant, making it an excellent material for boat construction.

The boards hanging from the side of the boat are called leeboards and help the vessel track straight in the water while under sail.
