Sailboats
Sails on boats go back over 3,000 years to ancient Mesopotamia.
Almost every culture in the world used sails to harness wind energy.
Sails vary in size, shape, and materials.
This type of sailboat, called an Optimist Pram (or Opti's), is one of two types the International Sailing Federation approved for sailors under 16 years of age.
The Optimist Pram was designed in 1947 by Clark Mills for the Optimist Club of Clearwater, FL, so that young people could enjoy low-cost sailing.
Today, they are usually made of Fiberglass. This one, made on-site, is closer to the original design using sheets of marine-grade plywood.
