Inscription.
George W. Mitchell was buried on or near this spot on March 10, 1836 by his brother Marcus Milton Mitchell of Enfield Massachusetts. George was 28 years old.

The brothers traveled to St. Augustine in hopes of curing George's consumption.

A written account by Marcus revealed George was buried three or four feet east of the Reverend Parker Adams. Due to the rising water level caused by the tide, stones were placed in the open grave to support the coffin above water.

Markers of durable pine were set in place at the head and foot of the grave.
