Inscription. In 1945 the descendants of Colonel Sevier sold the property to the City of Nashville for use as a public park. Sevier Park was dedicated on June 7, 1948, In 1954 a swimming pool was added, and a community center was built in 1963. The surrounding neighborhoods-originally part of the Sunnyside property-continued to grow and the park became an important neighborhood landmark. By 1985, the park had picnic shelters, tennis courts, a playground, and a basketball court. The family of the Parks Department superintendent occupied Sunnyside until 1987.

A partial restoration of the house was completed in 2004, and it became home to the Metropolitan Historical Commission and Metropolitan Historic Zoning Commission. After years of deferred maintenance and both the front and rear buildings being in desperate need of repairs, another renovation began in 2021. This renovation made improvements to the main house, reconnected the rear ell, changed the location of the driveway, restored the 1950s office building, and reconstructed the late 1800s carriage house.
