what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
o'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

"The Star-Spangled Banner" was ordered played at military and naval occasions by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916, but was not designated the national anthem by an Act of Congress until 1931.
