Other Dairies. . , Maxwell Dairy - By Keith Maxwell: , When I was 10, our family moved to Enoch to run the Maxwell Dairy. Our dairy was rented from Stanford Jones. We milked between 30 and 40 cows. Customers brought their own containers to get milk. Surplus milk was sold to the cheese factory in 10 gallon cans. Due to government regulations, we had to start bottling the milk in 1 gallon glass bottles. Customers came to the dairy to pick up the milk. We raised most of the feed for the cows so we were always tending water. We also hauled hay by hand and cut our own grain. We fed cows and calves, washed bottles, and bottled the milk. Dad ran the dairy until 1965., Other Dairies in Enoch , The Dairy at Fort Johnson, Joseph Armstrong Dairy, John Lee Jones Dairy, Myron Jones Dairy, Stanford Jones Dairy, Norman Grimshaw Dairy and the individual dairies of Ivan, Lamar and Evan Matheson., Dairies West of the Matheson Dairy Along Midvalley Road: , Gaylen Matheson Dairy (1 Mile West) - Gaylen and Gay ran the dairy with 7 daughters and 2 sons. Many came to buy milk just to see the 7 girls with their Dutch style hair covers made from white flour sacks. , Bielby Heaton Dairy (2½ Miles West) Bielby was known for his kindness. Whenever there was an emergency at a neighboring dairy, even the children knew to shout out, "Someone call Bielby." , Sherratt Dairy (2¾ Miles West) - Operated by the Cressal and Jenny Sherratt Family, their dairy barn was larger than all the other dairies. It held a total of 12 cows at a time, in a herringbone pattern and still stands near Midvalley Road and Lund Highway. , Cedar North Stake Dairy - The Cedar North Stake purchased the Sherratt Dairy in 1978. Youth and ward groups from Cedar City and Enoch had opportunities to serve at the Cedar North Stake Dairy, feeding calves, hauling hay, moving sprinklers, and fixing fences. The milk from this dairy was sent to Beaver for cheese. Local neighbors struggling for sufficient income worked many hours at the dairy in exchange for food commodities.
