Captain Charles Wilbur Adams, the first Captain of the SS Nenana, was also the owner and Captain of the Steamer LaVelle Young that in 1901 offloaded E.T. Barnette, his wife, crew and supplies onto the banks of what was to become Fairbanks, Alaska.
