1. Battleship Oregon Memorial Marine Park Marker

Inscription. This is the main mast of the immortal U.S.S. Oregon, all that remains of one of the worlds most gallant ships after serving America in three major wars. Launched in 1893 she made the famous run through the Straits of Magellan. In 1898 she joined the American fleet at Key West, Florida and proceeded into the world famous Battle of Santiago of the Spanish-American War. The “Oregon” undoubtedly furnished the needed power to make this an overwhelming American victory.

In World War I the Oregon saw duty as a coast defense and training ship. After a few years in Portland Harbor as a museum she was used as an ammunition barge and depot in World War II.
