In 1941 ten thousand Jews from Bobruysk (Belarus) were taken from the overcrowded ghetto in which they had been forced to live and were murdered by the Nazis in the woods of Kaminka. The bodies were burned in long trenches, dug by 1,000 military prisoners, who preceded the Jews to their horrible death.
On November 18, 1991, during a pilgrimage to Kaminka, ash from those trenches was given by Yevgeny Romm of Minsk to Rabbi Lawrence Silverman. This ash has been buried here as a memorial to the martyrs of Bobruysk and in remembrance of the six million Jews and millions of righteous of many nations who perished in the Holocaust.
