1. The Original First Presbyterian Church Marker
Inscription.
The church had its beginning in the winter of 1902-03 when the Rev. M. E. Krouse Ph. D., Presbyterian missionary of Rampart, Alaska came to the new camp on the Chena [River] called Fairbanks. He built a mission cabin, preached the first sermons ever heard in the Tanana Valley. He returned to Rampart and reported to the Rev. S. Hall Young, D.D., who later came to Fairbanks and built this church and a small manse which were completed in November 1904. Cost of the church and manse was $5500. The church was formerly [sic-formally] organized on the first Sunday of May 1905, having 32 members with the Rev. S. Hall Young as its minister. The church building was moved to the A-67 site from its original location at 7th and Cushman in May 1966.
