1. Riverwalk Visionaries Marker

Inscription. In 1979 a committee was formed to help decide what kind of community gift would be appropriate as a lasting memorial of Naperville's sesquicentennial celebration to be held in 1981. Local businessman, Jim Moser, with the help of architect Chuck George, prepared a far-reaching plan to develop the banks of the West Branch of the DuPage River into an urban linear park. The "riverwalk," as it came to be known, would be built brick by brick, tree by tree, by volunteers to beautify the banks of the river and become a gathering place for the community. Mayor Chet Rybicki gave his total approval and support to this project and helped direct the city into a partnership of private and public cooperation that continues to this day.
