Inscription. In German folklore the cyclamen was known as Our Lady's ladles. The story of the German people said that regardless of how the flower stems grew vertical, horizontal, or drooping, the "cups" of the flower were always facing upwards. This resulted in a resemblance of the stems and the flowers to that of little ladles. This evoked an image of the kitchen of Nazareth, and that Our Lady Mary would ladle grace into souls.
