1. Concrete Paving Marker
Inscription. Completed in the summer of 1912, the concrete paving of the street from the Depot up the hill to The Inn on Mercer Blvd at the end of Dixon was scored with lines to prevent slippage by the horses which were used for hauling luggage and merchandise for summer visitors to Charlevoix. Concrete was a comparatively new material for paving streets; a group of Aldermen and Mayor Will E. Hampton visited nine cities from Detroit to Chicago to study various surfaces. Ann Arbor had used concrete to good effect. Leo Howland, Contractor, began work in May, 1912.
