Le square porte le nom de l'organiste Gabriel Pierné (1863- 1937). La fontaine date de 1830 et servait à alimenter en eau le marché des Carmes installé place Maubert. Imaginée par le peintre et sculpteur français Alexandre-Évariste Fragonard (1780-1850), elle fut déplacée en 1930, avant la construction du square. On y trouve également une statue de Marcello Tommasi, Carolina (1968). Un catalpa commun est remarquable par sa circonférence et par son port naturel.

The square is named after the organist Gabriel Pierné (1863- 1937). The fountain dates from 1830 and was used to supply water to the Carmelite market set up in the Place Maubert. Imagined by the French painter and sculptor Alexandre-Évariste Fragonard (1780-1850), it was moved in 1930, before the construction of the square. There is also a statue of Marcello Tommasi, Carolina (1968). A common catalpa is remarkable for its circumference and by its natural form.
