1. Michigan Beach Park Marker

Inscription. This land was deeded to the City of Charlevoix for park purposes in 1882 by Amos and Ella Fox for the sum of $840.00. At some time prior to the year 1900, the City constructed a water works" on the north end of the property. In 1899 the Secretary of the Treasury acquired a portion of the site along The Pine River Channel for consideration of $1 and a life saving station, the forerunner of the present Coast Guard Station. In 1967 the area occupied by the water works was leased to the MDNR for a fish hatchery. In 1970 the land sold for the life saving station was repurchased by the City of Charlevoix.

In the years between 1900 & 1950, Coast Guard families were allowed to construct homes on a portion of the park land. That area was surveyed in 1957 and the land occupied by the homes was sold by the City to the home owners.
