1. Nellie Parsons Marker
Nellie Parsons was the daughter of the Reverend John Parsons who came to Fairbanks and built the first Methodist church here in 1905. Nellie used to accompany her father on his trips to the creeks where she played the organ and sang at the various outreach services he performed.
In addition to basketball, she also played women's hockey on the ice of the Chena River.
In 1909 she married George Lloyd Lounsbury, who was a well-known athlete in his own right, and they moved to Engineer Creek where they mined gold from 1909-1913. Today you can find some of Nellie's grandsons cheering from the bleachers at many local hockey and basketball games in Fairbanks.
