Inscription.

Jim Binkley was born in 1920 in Wrangell, Alaska. His father was a pioneer riverboat captain who came to Alaska during the gold rush of 1898. Captain Jim ran the entire length of the Yukon River and its major tributaries which supplied the miners and native villages. He met his wife, Mary, at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. In 1950 they started this business and helped to develop the Alaska tourism industry. A licensed captain for over 60 years, Captain Jim died in 2003 at his home in Fairbanks. He lived to see his sons and grandchildren take over the business he started.

—He will always be our Captain—
