More about this memorial. Jacolik is one of four Bridgeport men honored in the neighborhood with parks dedicated in their names. The others are Gregory Sintac, James Humbert and Joseph McKeon Jr.

This playground was originally known as Eleanor Park, for its neighboring street, and leased by the city from Peoples Gas until 1976, when the property was sold to the Chicago Park District. It was named after Jacolik in 1999.

This park is kitty-corner a four-acre park called Park No. 571, home to boathouses next to the South Branch of the Chicago River.

of the park that would eventually bear his name. He listed his employer as the Sleepmaker Company, on the 2400 block of S. Western Ave, a couple of miles away. During World War II, he was a private with the 121st Infantry Regiment of the 8th Infantry Division. He was 19 years old when he died in battle on August 15, 1944; he was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his efforts, and is buried in Brittany American Cemetery in Saint-James, France. While details of his death could not immediately be ascertained, it is known that the 121st came ashore at Utah Beach on July 4, 1944, exactly four weeks after D-Day. At the time of Jacolik's death, the unit was in the area of the Brittany town of Dinan.
