1. Living, Breathing History Marker
"Sun/Jan 8, 1939-Traveled down to the East Fork Ranger Cabin in the canyon. There was much overflow water from the mouth of the canyon down to the cabin. The rangers cabin was an awfull mess. The bear had been in the cabin. It took me three hours to get it in shape to stop in. 20 miles. Warm, 8 sheep, 22 caribou."

Savage Cabin lies just around the bend. It symbolizes how roadside cabins remain a vital part of protecting Denali's unique wilderness character.
Efforts to preserve and protect Denali's wilderness continue. Today's rangers face many of the same challenges that the park's first rangers did.
In the summer, all of the roadside cabins house rangers who patrol the park road and backcountry. In the winter, Savage Cabin is used by rangers who patrol the park on dog sleds.
By design, there are no exhibits on the remainder of this loop trail. The short section back to the parking lot is kept clear of obstructions for dog teams going to and from the cabin. Happy Trails!

In 1940, the park separated the two cabins and moved them to this more protected location. The right side was reassembled. The other was eventually used for firewood.
