Inscription.
July 9, 1862, Morgan's Raiders, coming from Tenn. on first raid into Ky., attacked force of 9th Pa. Cav. at USA garrison. Raiders captured 30 of retreating enemy and destroyed tents and stores. They took 20 wagons, 50 mules, 40 horses, sugar and coffee supplies. At Glasgow they burned supplies, then went north, raiding 16 other towns before returning to Tenn.

Erected 1962 by Kentucky Historical Society and Kentucky Department of Highways. (Marker Number 524.)

More about this marker. Originally dedicated in 1962 to commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Tompkinsville. It was initially located at East 4th Street and School Drive, but was repaired and relocated to the front lawn of the Monroe County Courthouse in 2024 after sustaining significant damage in 2022.
