1. The Former Site of St. Sebastion Church Marker
Germans, mainly from Bavaria, began settling in Huron County before 1830. Immediately, these hardy people cleared land for their small farms and log cabins, and they continued the practice of their Catholic faith.
1836 - The perish was established.
1843 - A small log chapel was built and dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel.
1846 - The first church was constructed of rough-hewn logs and dedicated to St. Sebastian.
1855 - This church was destroyed by fire.
1857 - A new church was erected.
1923 - The church was renovated and enlarged by adding the sanctuary and sacristies. The 112 foot steeple, which housed these bells, was replaced by a dome capped steeple.
2005 - St. Sebastian Church was closed.
2019 - St. Sebastian Church was razed and the furnishings were disbursed.
2023 - This memorial was erected.
