1. U.S.S. Savannah (AOR 4) Marker

Inscription. Commissioned December 5, 1970 as a multipurpose replenishment oiler, this ship became the fifth United States Navy ship to bear the name Savannah.

During underway replenishment, this “one-stop store at sea” transferred fuel, ammunition, food and other consumable supplies to all ships of the fleet. The helicopter platform aft allowed simultaneous vertical replacement.

After serving our nation during the Vietnam War through the Persian Gulf War, USS Savannah (AOR 5) was decommissioned on July 28, 1995.
