Annelies Marie "Anne" Frank (12 June 1929 c. February or March 1945) was a German-born Jewish girl(Submitted on October 1, 2024.)who kept a diary documenting her life in hiding amid Nazi persecution during the German occupation of the Netherlands. A celebrated diarist, Frank described everyday life from her family's hiding place in an Amsterdam attic. She gained fame posthumously and became one of the most-discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust with the 1947 publication of The Diary of a Young Girl (originally Het Achterhuis in Dutch, lit. 'the back house'; English: The Secret Annex), which documents her life in hiding from 1942 to 1944. On 15 March 1931 Otto and Edith Frank took over the tenancy agreement that the current tenant had made with the owner of the ground floor flat less than a year before. The family was registered at this address ten days later. Margot was five years old, Anne just over eighteen months.(Submitted on October 1, 2024.)
The economic crisis hit the family hard in business terms. On 27 December 1932, Otto and Edith Frank wrote to the landlord that they had to give notice to terminate the rent on 31 March 1933 "in view of the changed economic situation". On 25 March 1933 the council transferred the family's registration to Dantestrasse 4, the house where Otto's mother was still living at the time.
