More about this memorial. The memorial has one spelling error: inverting the e and i in Antietam. It also refers to the Battle of Stones River as "Stone River."

The memorial was rededicated in 2015, the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, after undergoing repairs. The 50-foot obelisk is topped by a Union soldier holding a flag; flanking each side of the memorial are two more statues, one Union infantryman and one Union cavalryman. The quote at the front of the statue is from Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

The memorial sits in front of the circa-1903 DeKalb County Courthouse, the third to sit on this site. A Vietnam memorial is placed behind the Civil War monument. Another veterans plaque was found on the side of the courthouse.
