In front of the marker are four square slabs honoring four Forest Park first responders who died in the line of duty: Edward Pflaume, Herman Ziebell, Michael Caulfield and Frank Schnurstein. These four men are honored in Remembrance Park, about 2½ miles north of here, with small markers explaining their stories. In particular, police officer Herman Ziebell's murder during a botched burglary in 1946 occurred on Des Plaines Avenue at its intersection with Roosevelt Road, about one mile north of here.
