Le nom du square rend hommage au résistant et créateur du réseau de résistance France au Combat, Eugène Thomas (1903-1969), plusieurs fois ministre sous la IV République. Derrière le square se trouve la mairie du 12° arrondissement, œuvre d'Eugène Hénard (1849-1923), architecte et urbaniste, inventeur du rondpoint.

(English translation:)

The name of the square pays tribute to the resistance fighter and creator of the France au Combat resistance network, Eugène Thomas (1903-1969), several times minister under the Fourth Republic. Behind the square is the town hall of the 12th arrondissement, the work of Eugène Hénard (1849-1923), architect and urban planner, inventor of the roundabout.
