Napoléon empereur auguste, a consacré à la gloire de la Grande Armée, cette colonne, monument formé de l'airain conquis sur l'ennemi pendant la guerre d'Allemagne en 1805, guerre qui, sous son commandement, fut terminée dans l'espace de trois mois.

English translation
Napoleon, the August Emperor, consecrated to the glory of the Grande Armée this column, a monument formed of the brass conquered from the enemy during the German War in 1805, a war which, under his command, was ended in the space of three months.
