In grateful remembrance of the soldiers and sailors who died that the Union might live, Asher W. Miner presents this monument to Hatch Post, 241 G.A.R. Dedicated Aug. 25, 1885. Fraternity, Charity & Loyalty.
Gratefully erected in behalf of our heroic dead, whose lives were freely offered upon our country's altar in her hour of need.
"We highly resolve that the dead shall not have died in vain - that the nation shall under God, have a new birth of freedom, and that the government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Lincoln.
"They went where duty seemed to call, they scarcely asked the reason why; they only knew they could but die. And death was not the worst of all."
"On Fame's eternal camping-ground, their silent tents are spread, and glory guards, with solemn round, the bivouac of the dead."
