1. Dry House Marker
Inscription. During the late 1700's and early 1800's, some farms used a dry house, like this one, especially if the family supported by the farm was large or food was being preserved for market. Apples, cherries, peaches, pears, berries, grapes, or other foods, including corn and beans, were dried in season on the screen trays of the dry house.
