In 1767, Abraham Bonnell Jr. licensed this tavern on the Great Road from New Brunswick to Easton. As a Lt. Col., he led a regiment of Hunterdon miltia (sic) raised here in 1775.

The Bonnell Tavern has been a landmark in rural Hunterdon County, NJ since it was established in 1767 by Colonel Abraham Bonnell. It was operated as a tavern until the 1890s and held an important role in the US Revolutionary war for independence. The tavern has been in the Bonnell family since 1767 and plans for its renovation are well underway.
