1. Smith Morey Barn Marker
Abner Newton built this barn in 1790 in the style of a traditional English barn with double-center doors, a hay mow on the right and stalls on the left. The structure originally stood on his farm in Nassau, Rensselaer County, New York. About 1845. Smith Morey moved the barn to a new site and remodeled it with two front doors and a level floor to, house horses and, carriages. The barn has been restored to its 1845 appearance on the exterior. The horse stalls on the left side of the barn have not been rebuilt. Barns such as this were found not only on farms, but in villages as well. They often stood beside businesses such as general stores and were used for extra storage space.
