1. Sugarhouse Marker
This small sugarhouse is a reconstruction of the building shown in the original photo which dates to about 1900. The remnants of the old structure existed until recently when the last beams were dismantled to make way for the new house.
The new frame was built in the traditional post and beam manner and raised up by a group of volunteers from the Rotary Club in Guilford.
The ramp on one side of the building allowed sap to drain from the oxen drawn sled tank by gravity into the cooking pans.
Syrup is occasionally made in this sugar house in the early spring when the daytime temperature begins to rise above freezing.
