1. Along the Waterfront in 1885 Marker
This photo is from 1885, four years before Boothbay Harbor was incorporated. On the far left is the Lewis Block, a large wooden structure now housing Pier One Pizza. Arriving at Lewis' wharf is the steamer Wiwurna, which ran regularly between Bath and Boothbay. The tall building with four chimneys behind and right of the sailboat's mast is the 1878 Miller Block, now A Silver Lining. Manson McKown built mostly pleasure craft at his "Boat Shop," now the site of Granary Way. The house with the south-facing dormer is currently Grover's Hardware. To the north is the Methodist Church, which burned in 1951. The present church was built on the same site. The next steeple is the Congregational Church. On the far right is the clock tower of the School Street high school, built in 1877.
