The "Artemis"
Frederick Gilbert Bourne, member of the Chippewa, Frontenac, Thousand Islands, and New York Yacht Club (Commodore 1903/05) and the Jekyll Island Club, owned 15 registered yachts during his lifetime. Bourne bought the Artemis in 1898; it was the vessel used to transport FGB and architect Flagg to Dark Island to check castle construction 1903/05.
Artemis was sold to Fred and Nellie Frazier of Cherry Island, became the Nelfred and remained on the St. Lawrence River until 1924. [Photo showing] Artemis at "The Towers" on Dark Island, c 1905. Note: the castle as originally built, prior to addition of the 3rd boathouse slip, clock bedroom suite/breakfast room, and garden wall.
