2. Geschichte der Zunft zu Saffron (Zunft zur Saffran, in German). Excerpt (in translation):
As early as 1389, 18 shopkeepers' guild members acquired the "Haus zu dem Schiff" opposite the town hall. Originally, there were two societies within the merchants' guild: one - probably the older one - was named after the house "ze dem Schiff", the younger one was called "ze dem Mörsel", named after the neighboring property that was also acquired by other members of the merchants' guild before 1445. In the course of the years 1417-1445, the two societies came together under the name "zum Saffran", named after the spice saffron, from whose trade the merchants derived their wealth. For administrative reasons - the establishment of new guilds that took into account the changing times was not considered for centuries - representatives of the most diverse professions were later assigned to the Saffran Guild, so that in addition to the shopkeepers, the printers, the confectioners, the needle makers, the belt makers, the secklers (today's bandagists), the passementerie, the button makers, the strehl makers, the brush makers, the trouser makers (today's jersey manufacturers) and the pharmacists could also be found at the Saffran.(Submitted on October 22, 2024.)
