1. An Overlock House Marker

An Overlock House
James Overlock was one of the most prolific builders of houses in Thomaston between 1840 and 1855. His homes had a very distinctive Italianate appearance. Many have well sheltered side entrances, a practical way of keeping heat trapped in the house. The sizes and shapes of his creations vary but they are similar enough so that one can begin to recognize his work by checking for basic lines and porch details. He used exceptionally large brackets on the porches and favored, variations of artistically curved design. Built in 1854, this house was owned by Captain E. S. Counce who eventually sold it to Ames Walker, one of Thomaston's many shipbuilders.
