Regarding E.H. Dieke Barn. Ernest H. Dieke owned a country store at Biesterfield near Route 53 (today's I-290) that gave name to a small community called Diekeville. According to various newspaper features, E.H. Dieke was a farmer who, in 1897, acquired a creamery near the border of Schaumburg and Elk Grove townships. According to a 1940 article in the Cook County Herald, Dieke claimed to have installed the area's first telephone and to have been the first person to bring electric service to the area.
