Mona Parsons 1901-1976

Born in Middleton, Mona Parsons was an actress and nurse before moving to Holland with her Dutch husband in 1937. When the Nazis invaded, she joined the Dutch resistance, rescuing airmen until captured a year later. After nearly four years of imprisonment, Parsons escaped in 1945 and made an epic journey on foot across war-torn Europe to freedom. Back in Canada, she married childhood friend Harry Foster (see opposite panel).

Née à Middleton, Mona Parsons est actrice et infirmière avant de s’installer en Hollande avec son Mari néerlandais en 1937. A` l’invasion des nazis, elle se joint à la résistance néerlandaise, secourant des aviators allies jusqu’à sà capture un a plus tard. Après près de quatre ans en prison, Parsons s’évade en 1945 et début un péripple épique en traversing à pied une Europe ravageé par la guerre pour retriever sa liberté.
