1. Shagbark Hickory Marker
Inscription. The shagbark hickory is common in the Midwest and often associates with white and bur oak as part of the oak-hickory forest. Historically, hickory nuts were a prized food for Native Americans, and the strong, hard wood was used to make tool handles and farm implements. Its wood is unsurpassed as a fuel and for smoking meats.
