1. Green Ash Marker
Inscription. Green ash, a fast-growing, medium-sized tree, had been heavily planted as a street tree in the growing suburbs of the Midwest. The arrival of the emerald ash borer in the early 2000s resulted in the loss of most of these trees. A hardy tree, it originally grew along streams and in lowlands. Like white ash, its light, strong wood was used for flooring, canoe paddles, baseball bats, and snowshoes.
