1. Polish Hill War Monument

Inscription. At one time in Pittsburgh's history, nearly 1/3 of its population could claim Polish descent. The late 1800s saw an influx of immigrants from Poland, many of them concentrating in the hilly neighborhood that they named Polskie Wzgórze, or Polish Hill. The nearby Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, completed in 1905, provided a cultural hub for the community. This monument honors all those from this neighborhood that served their country in time of war.
