The Fred Savage Home
Bar Harbor, Maine
| — | The Museum in the Streets | — |
This fine example of English Tudor design and pink granite construction was the work and home of famed local architect Fred Savage, who designed many of the larger homes and public buildings in the area. All of the pink granite was quarried right here on the island, each piece cut individually by expert stone-cutters. Other examples of Mr. Savage's work can be seen throughout Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island.
Atlantic Avenue was the location of the home of Nobel laureate Dr. George D. Snell, (1903-1996) who received his Nobel Prize for work in mammalian genetic research. He was a senior staff scientist at Bar Harbor's renowned Jackson Laboratory and is known as the father of immuno-genetics.
