1. Where are the Lenape Now? Marker
Inscription. As European settlers began arriving on the continent, they introduced diseases and sought resources in the "New World." These diseases devastated Lenape communities, leading survivors to sign numerous treaties with the colonists that compelled them to relocate from their sacred lands to the western territories. Despite these hardships, the Lenape are survived by their descendants, who are actively endeavoring to elevate their history in historical discourse. In Delaware, they are presently centered in central Kent County, striving to actively involve their community through educational, social, and cultural initiatives.
