Regarding Jacob Bohlander House. The Bohlander House is one of about a dozen homes in Maywood, a suburb about 10 miles west of downtown Chicago, that were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Jacob Bohlander was a merchant with stores here in Maywood and in nearby Oak Park, and he also served as Maywood's village president at the time that he built this home. Jacob's great-grandfather, John Bohlander, was a Bavarian immigrant, and Jacob's grandfather Peter eventually settled in what is today the suburb of Berkeley, Illinois. Berkeley's Old Settlers' Cemetery is situated on land that was donated by Peter Bohlander in 1845; a Bohlander memorial can be found at that cemetery.

Excerpt: "A stone and red brick Queen Anne with wrap around porch was built in 1894 by dry goods merchant Jacob Bohlander, who was also Maywood's second mayor. The use of Greek columns on the front porch and dorners suggest the classic Queen Anne style popular in the 1880's and 1890's. The house has been completely restored and contains almost the original features."(Submitted on November 6, 2024, by Sean P. Flynn of Oak Park, Illinois.)
