Inscription. William Penn attended a meeting of the Friends (Quakers) at Thomas Hooker’s December 1682 on this tract called “Brownton” (patented in 1652 for 660 acres). Penn sailed from here across the Bay to the Choptank River to a General Meeting of the Friends.

Erected 1935 by State Roads Commission.
