1. Damsluis Marker
Inscription.  
Deze overkluisde bakstenen sluis is in 1592 gebouwd op de plaats van de Vrouwenbrug. Dit om het achterland te beschermen. De haven dreigde echter te verzanden. De Edamse scheepsbouwers verzelten zich en vernielden meermalen de sluis. Vanaf 1701 berust het beheer bij het hoogheemraadschap van de Uitwaterende Sluizen in Kennemerland en Westfriesland. De wapenstenen in de kademuur herinneren hieraan. Sinds 1829 is de sluis buiten gebruik.

To protect the hinterland in 1592 this vaulted brick- stone lock was constructed on the foundation of a former bridge (the Vrouwenbrug). Due to the imminent silting up of the harbour the shipbuilders rose and more than once destroyed the lock. Since 1701 the lock was owned by the hoogheemraadschap van de Uitwaterende Sluizen in Kennemerland en Westfriesland. As a remembrance the coats of arms of this governing body are still on the quay wall of this since 1829 disused lock.
