Inscription. Construction of the canal began in Middletown, Ohio in 1825.

Completed in 1845, the canal from Cincinnati to Toledo is 256 miles long.

The Miami and Erie Canal opened Western Ohio to settlement, commerce, and provided water power for industry.

Erected by Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association, Ohio Department of Natural Resources - Ohio State Parks & Watercraft.
