1. The Longhouse Marker
Inscription. The longhouse, such as the one erected here in Ashland, served as a communal meeting place within the community. Smaller, rounded structures were constructed as family living quarters. Within these communities, men typically assumed roles as hunters and fishermen, while women contributed to pottery and basket making, medicine, as well as food preparation and cooking.
