North Country National Scenic Trail
Spectacular wooded ravines, massive rock outcroppings, historic ruins and the Great Miami River make this 1,300-acre park unique. Bicyclists can enjoy riding along the Great Miami River Bikeway.
Spend the afternoon picnicking at a number of popular locations, such as the CCC Shelter, which was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936 and restored in 1989. Download a brochure of all MetroParks' shelters when you visit the "Publications" page at metroparks.org.
A short walk from the CCC picnic shelter north of the dam leads to a huge pile of Brassfield dolomite with an exposed rock face behind. Walk up the stone stairs and examine the small caverns created by water traveling through the stone over extended time.
The village of Tadmor dissipated after the flood of 1913, remnants of the village can still be found 1.25 miles north along the bikeway.
The Village Of Tadmor
The Village of Tedmor it significant as being the location of one of the most important centers of transportation. in Ohio history. As early as 1809, keelboats were poled up river from Dayton to load and unload freight in the village. By 1837, the Miami and Erie Canal had reached Tadmor, connecting it to the Ohio River in the south and Lake Erie in the north. the 1830s, the National Road was constructed through Tadmor. connecting it to point east and west in 1831. the Dayton & Michigan Railroad established freight and passenger service the growing town. Residents hoped that Tadmor's strategic location would help it, prosper. however, successive flooding Great Miami River stifled growth. Tadmor was finally abandoned a am constructed by the Miami Conservancy District in 1922 to retain water during flooding made the site uninhabitable.

The North Country National Scenic Trail links scenic, natural, historic, and cultural areas in seven states. The 4,600-mile-long trail includes a variety of hikes from easy walking to challenging treks. Through, the combined efforts of many people, the trail will become the longest continuous trail in the United States. From the Missouri River in North Dakota to the shores of Lake Champlain in New York, the trail includes a variety of features, from clear-flowing streams to vast prairies to sandy beaches.
